DON’T OVER-HANDLE YOUR HAIR
After washing, you do not want to handle your hair too much. Having your hands in your hair can lead to frizz because of the friction you are creating. Just because your hair is natural, does not mean that it can withstand a lot of rough handling.
After my shampoo, I usually lightly squeeze the excess water out with a t-shirt, just enough to stop the extensive dripping. Then I do not touch after applying my leave-in. Wet hair is in a fragile state, so I do not want to cause unnecessary damage.
DO BE CONSISTENT
I am a creature of habit. This is beneficial when it comes to maintaining your natural hair. I have a certain regimen before I go to bed and a certain day when I shampoo.
It is best to come up with routines that fit into your busy schedule. That way it will become muscle memory and it will feel less daunting when it is time to shampoo your hair.
DON’T USE A REGULAR TOWEL
Like your hands, a regular towel can cause frizz by drying out your hair. It is better to use a microfiber towel. Personally, I like to let my hair air dry as much as possible.
It is important to find a time where you are not in a hurry to dry your hair. If you made plans to go out for dinner on shampoo day, you may cut corners and use a towel so that you can dry your hair quickly.
